Music Blog

Hi blog world,

I have exciting updates regarding our final task! At this point, we have finished the entirety of the filming process. Now it is time to pick a song for our piece. We were going to do this before we started filming but we didn't have many ideas. We needed to actually film first, in costume, to really get a feel for our piece. After filming, it helped us narrow down an idea of what we want for the music. Since this is a mystery/horror genre the song had to convey an eerie strange vibe. But also, a slightly positive feeling from the beginning, all is well. A huge challenge was looking for something that was not copyrighted. Many sounds fit, but we were unable to use them due to copyright infringement.

Sarah suggested a song from the Stranger Things soundtrack. I liked this idea at first since the television show has that eerie dark mysterious vibe. It was just too Sci-Fi like and didn't really fit our piece. The song had feelings of 80’s nostalgia, which is great, but our plot is in today's world. So having an 80’s themed song might confuse the viewers and change the vibe. Milana suggested using a song from the 1950’s. I really liked that idea since music from that time period would encapsulate the aura of our project. The song “sleep walk "by Betsy Brye was an option but it did not transition well. When we played it with our footage, it fit the beginning part great. When it came to the more suspenseful part it really did not have that effect we were looking for. We also realized that this song is copyrighted so we had to rule it. It gave us a good idea, even though we did not use it. I’m planning on looking for other copyright-free songs we can use that are like “sleep walk”. Thats all for this weeks updates! Catch you guys next time.
